WASHINGTON, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump lit the National Christmas Tree set up on the south front of the White House on Wednesday.
Trump counted down from ten Wednesday evening before the first lady hit the switch to illuminate the Colorado blue spruce at President's Park.
"Merry Christmas, everybody," Trump told a crowd. "We just have to say it all together: Merry, merry Christmas."
The president's son Donald Trump Jr., daughter Tiffany Trump, daughter-in-law Lara Trump, White House counselor Kellyanne Conway and Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke were also in attendance.
Lighting the National Christmas Tree is one of America's oldest holiday traditions. The first such lighting was held on Christmas Eve in 1923.
