UNITED NATIONS, June 26 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday condemned the killing of a UN peacekeeper in South Sudan, said his spokesman.
The blue helmet from Bangladesh was killed on Tuesday in an attack on a convoy providing protection to humanitarian workers delivering supplies to vulnerable communities in the Central Equatoria region of South Sudan.
The secretary-general offered his deepest condolences to the bereaved family and to the government of Bangladesh, said Stephane Dujarric, the spokesman, in a statement.
Guterres recalled that attacks against UN peacekeepers may constitute a war crime. He reaffirmed his unwavering support to the brave men and women serving in the UN Mission in South Sudan in their efforts to protect civilians and stabilize the war-torn country, said the spokesman.
