The 82-year-old Liu is a retired lawyer. He once organized an amateur chorus and orchestra. As a music enthusiast, Liu practices singing in his spare time. His wife Sun Yiqing, 76, is a retired teacher. Liu Xingren was accompanied on several singing contests in Beijing and Tianjin by his wife.
