KIEV, March 20 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian businesses are an important part of the Canton Fair, China's largest trade fair in southern Guangdong Province, the organizer of the fair said on Wednesday.
"China and Ukraine are important trading partners. Ukrainian companies are a very important part of the upcoming Canton Fair," Xu Bing, deputy director general of China Foreign Trade Center, which is in charge of organizing the event, told Xinhua in an interview.
The 125th biannual session of China Import and Export Fair, also known as the Canton Fair, will be held in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province between April 15 and May 5. More than 25,000 exhibitors and about 200,000 buyers from some 200 countries and regions are expected to attend it.
Xu, who is in Kiev to promote the fair, said the number of Ukrainians participating in the fair has been growing every year.
About 1,500 Ukrainian buyers participated in the 124th Canton Fair, he said.
"This is evidence that trade relations between Ukraine and China are developing steadily and rapidly. In addition, this indicates that Chinese goods enjoy high demand in Ukraine," said Xu.
Xu believes that the upcoming fair would attract a greater number of participants from Ukraine, including both buyers and exhibitors.
"We hope that even more Ukrainian companies will take part in the fair and introduce even more high-quality Ukrainian goods to the Chinese market," Xu said.
Chinese entrepreneurs are particularly interested in seeing Ukrainian-made high-tech products at the fair, he noted.
Xu emphasized that Ukrainian businessmen may use the exhibition as an opportunity to reap benefits from the growing Chinese market.
"China is the world's second largest economy, the second largest global importer, and the second largest consumer market. In addition, China's middle class has 400 million people, and its purchasing power is constantly growing," Xu said.
Launched in 1957 by the Chinese government, the Canton Fair is held in the spring and autumn seasons each year. The exhibition is widely seen as a barometer of China's trade.
