ARUSHA, Tanzania, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Tanzania's Zanzibar archipelago on Tuesday commended Chinese medical team for their exemplary services, adding that they helped in the country's quest to achieve universal access to health care.
Mwinyi Mselem, director of training and research in Zanzibar's ministry of health, said that the 28th batch of Chinese medical team have been giving specialized treatment to patients in the archipelago since last year and their tenure is to end in July this year.
He said that their exquisite medical skills have earned the trust and respect of local people and the government at large.
The Chinese medical team have been offering medical services at the Zanzibar's Mnazi Mmoja Referral hospital, in the spirit of consolidating the Tanzania-China friendship.
According to Mselem, the medical team have managed to offer health care in diseases including the neurological diseases and prostate cancer.
"Most people who have been treated by the Chinese medical team are responding well to treatment," he said, adding that with the medical team, there is no need for Zanzibar patients to go abroad for treatment.
Since 1964, China has been assigning medical teams to Zanzibar.
