BELGRADE, June 28 (Xinhua) -- Hungary and Serbia marked second consecutive wins in their groups at the Women's Eurobasket in Serbia on Friday and became the leaders of their groups.
The second match day in the group stage of the FIBA Women's Eurobasket 2019 that is co-hosted by Serbia and Latvia brought surprising defeat for the Group D favorite Belgium.
Belarus stunned Belgium by 69-61 in Zrenjanin's Crystal Hall thanks to Alexandra Bentley that scored 19 points, and Anastasiya Verameyenka who added 15 more.
In the Cair hall in Nis, Slovenia surprised Turkey at 62-55. Teja Oblak contributed 18 points.
Hungary achieved its second victory at the competition, beating Italy 59-51 and came on top of Group C.
In the last game today, Serbia overcame Russia 77-63, becoming the leader of Group D thanks to a 9-0 series at the beginning of the fourth quarter.
In Sunday's third round, Serbia will face Belgium, Europe's third ranked team, while Hungary take on Turkey.
Belarus meet Russia on Saturday, while Slovenia encounter Italy.
