PARIS, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Defending world champion Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela withstood a sluggish start to claim the women's triple jump title with 14.98m in IAAF Diamond League Monaco on Thursday.
With a foul in the first round and 13.28m in her followed-up attempt, Rojas was on the verge of an early elimination, sitting bottom among 11 participants. Top eight athletes after three jumps could continue their competition.
The world champion then steadied her nerves to post 14.96m in the third round, before improving that by another two centimeters to become the winner.
Cuba's Liadagmis Povea finished runner-up with 14.71m, ahead of Jamaica's Shanieka Ricketts, who registered 14.67m.
Rio Olympics gold medalist Caterine Ibarguen of Colombia finished sixth with 14.33m.
Other events of the Diamond League Monaco leg will be held at the Stade Louis II on Friday. Enditem
